Jan. 2010 Board Meeting Minutes

Jan 21 Board Meeting
Attending: DeHaan, Turner, Moen, Gutknecht, Roth
Minutes of December board meeting approved with no changes.

Treasurer's Report:
$ 17,400 foundation account (charitable)
$ 4050 - club account

Committee Chair Reports:
Programs: Howard reports that next week's program is Don Gregory - Rotary Foundation. The following week (Feb. 2 - is Lisa Sholley of Neighborcare - talking about their new Rainier Beach Clinic.
Ruth - proposed we pay for a membership in Rainier Valley Chamber of Commerce - as a reciprocal membership arrangement. Seconded by Turner. Proposal Passed.

Ruth: Membership Chair - will develop some membership development ideas. Discussion of ideas on how to generate membership applications. Ruth says people will join when they are directly, personally involved in club activities and projects. Mark says Mercer Island Rotary has a card their members can hand out to invite someone to one of their weekly meetings. Discussion of boosting attendance, participation. How to engage members who aren’t meeting the 2-meetings per month requirement.

Howard proposed we alert members who're not meeting the meetings requirements. Alert that
Second - we get their cellphone numbers and we voicemail them that we missed them.
Ruth says, yes, the meeting requirement is a requirement, and we have to more positively remind them that their energy and presence is missed. More ideas to follow.

Old Business
Dictionaries Project - discussed. Discussion of whether Board should commit to doing this project without any Project Director stepping-up from the Membership?
Book Distribution - discussed. There is one more school distribution coming.

New Business
Mardi Gras meeting is Tuesday evening from 6:30 at the Quarnstroms.
We will participate in mask decorating activity and have fun planning - especially how to invite friends, and sell the $15 tickets.

Suggestion: Feb. 16 Tues. morning meeting collects energy on one or two future projects.
Suggestion: By Feb 13 we already have an evening scheduled for moving forward (i.e. Tues Feb 16 - evening? - for a committee meeting

Next Board Meeting: February 18. Location to be determined.
