Dec 2012 COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:

Dec. 22 Program: "How I Got My Job In Washington, DC. And Why It's Your Job Too!"

12/22/2009 - 07:23
12/22/2009 - 08:30

Kerry Gutknecht works in Congressperson Jay Inslee's office in Washington, DC. Do you know of anyone who's felt frustrated, trying to influence legislation? Do you know of a teen or college student who's considering a career in government service? Here's an opportunity to bring them, and bring your questions about influencing government, or what it takes to stumble into this line of work.

Background Bio: Kerry grew up in Seattle, graduated from Nathan Hale H.S., is a graduate of Evergreen State College, and has not only worked for Congressperson Inslee, but preceeding that he was on the staff of the Congressional "Government Reform and Oversight Committee" for 2 years.

Questions you might ask: What e-mails are really read? Do campaign contributions matter? Is it really as disgusting as making sausage? How can you sleep at night? What do interns really do? Do defense contractors actually throw lavish parties for you? Is "ethical congressional representative" an oxymoron? Heard any funny cabinet jokes lately? Bring your questions!
Rainier Valley Rotary meets at Kallaloo, 3820 South Ferdinand in Columbia City - plentiful on-street parking. Visitors and Guests attend twice for free, then $10. The meeting includes a light breakfast buffet.
