April 17 Program: Howard Gutknecht - How I Made 2 Microloans Through KIVA.org
Rainier Valley Rotary launches a new series of programs about ways to make a difference in small ways. These may feature making a difference in your community, or making a difference and touching the lives of people on the other side of the planet.
Howard combined 20 minutes of creating an account with Kiva.org with putting together a PowerPoint presentation of screen captures as he put $100 to work in small micro-loans. Founded in 2006, Kiva.org is currently linking up tens of thousands of lenders with tens of thousands of borrowers, making small loans at a rate of $100 million per year, and growing rapidly. By borrowing money through KIVA.org a family in Africa or South America can establish an online link with people all around the world, and improve their lives. If this presentation inspires you to do something to make a difference in your community, or around the world, we will be pleased.
Rainier Valley Rotary meets at 2100 24th Avenue South. We invite visitors to come twice for free, then $10 is requested to cover our cost to provide a light breakfast and beverages.
