Combine event with art and photography from kids.
A portion of event proceeds to go to Audubon Society

            Rainier Rotary Brochure

Suggested by Howard to have a one page brochure to use for announcing events and to introduce Rainier Valley Rotary to prospective members:

One side would be a two/three month event calendar
Other side would be an informational sheet for Rainier Valley Rotary

Next step is to do more work and bring a finalized version in three weeks
Suggestion was made to add the Rainier Valley Rotary logo.

            Literacy Project

Reviewed Literacy Project proposed by Rusty.
Project includes a donation request of $1500 from RV club.

Suggestion was to fundraise through matching donations from other clubs: potentially Mercer Island

Project donation request did not specify which account the funds should come from: i.e. club or foundation.  Needing to confirm this.

Suggestion was to have club members raise the requested funds, instead of having the funds deducted from a club account.  Recommended that project proposal should be amended to reflect this change.

Suggestion was to authorize Rusty to seek donations from other clubs to make fundraising goal.
Project Sponsor was not in attendance at meeting.

Discussion on this issue was tabled and will be discussed at following board meeting.

Event will be from 6:00PM to 10:00PM.
Motion was made and approved by board to sign contracts.

            Math Expo

Project requested $1000 from Foundation account
Project Sponsor was not in attendance at meeting.
Discussion on this issue was tabled and will be discussed at following board meeting.

            Strategic Discussion

                        Questions raised:

How do we as a board decide which projects to fund?
How de we keep projects financially self-sustainable?
How do we identify projects that will support our vision to benefit local community?

For example, both the Literacy Project and Math Expo meet general criteria of benefitting the local community; how would we decide which project to support if we could not finally sponsor both projects:

Questions to consider when determine to fund a project:

·         Does the project in question address an issue that is under emphasized?
·         Does the project sponsor project passion about the project?
·         Are other RV rotary members passionate about the project?
·         Are there alternative resources within the community providing funding for this issue?
·         Will the project potentially be self-sustaining in the future?
·         What are the time commitments for the project?
·         Will the project be seen as valuable to the community?
·         Does the project give RVR increased visibility in the community?
·         Is the project a unique resource that we can supply?
·         How does RVR’s participation in the project benefit the organization and RVR?

Discussion tabled.  Topic to be continued at next board meeting.

Meeting Adjourned at 7:05PM.
