PROJECTS & RECENT PROGRAMS

LITERACY:

Bringing Literacy to the Youths of Rainier Valley. We are proud sponsor literacy  programs at Franklin HS, Rainier Beach HS, Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK Jr.), Kimball & Van Asselt Elementary Schools. Current  Projects:

      Little Free Libraries-for home fronts, schools and businesses in Columbia City/Hillman City.

    • xbot robotics - Franklin HS team xbot, a nationally recognized competition robotics team. Each year, FHS students work side by side with professional engineers: design, build & program 120 lb robotis in six and 1/2 short weeks!
    •  850-page Picture Dictionaries distributed to third graders at S. Shore, Graham Hill, St. Edwards Elementary Schools.
    • Financial support for SEED's application for a low-power FM Radio License
    • MLK Robotics - Fun with Lego Mindstorms
    • Kimball Cougars – Fun with WeDo Robotics
    • MLK Elemantary Teacher Grants

Rainier Valley Economic Bootstrapping is an open meeting conference. Open meetings are a forum in which any participant can propose a topic, lead a discussion, gather others ideas and draw together others interested in pursuing action steps to move forward.

LeAnne Chow knows how givng books to kids can turn their lives around. A surprising number of households have no books in them. PageAhead's mission is to find ways to give kids the experience of owning a book, and fostering a love of reading. Each year they put thousands of books into the hands of young readers. Bring your questions about literacy and child development.
